Ministries

Saint Laurence’s has a large number of groups, performing a wide range of ministries to the members of the Parish, the local community, and the wider world.

Eucharistic ministers.

Our team brings Communication to those unable to attend Mass, assists the Priest in sharing the sacred Body and Blood of Christ and visits the sick and housebound to share the sacraments with them.

On Sunday mornings we have a sung Mass led by a Cantor and at festivals we create a small choir to lead us in worship.  If you like to sing or can play an instrument then get in touch, no experience necessary – just enthusiasm and a commitment to being part of our Ministry.

Ministry of the word. lectionary

We have a dedicated team of readers for Masses and festivals.  Full training and support given in return for a commitment to read twice every three months.  New readers and younger Parishioners always welcome.

classesforchildrenCatechesis – the children’s class

This class is held every Tuesday during term time from 3.45 to 4.45pm in the church hall.  The class is for children aged 4 – 11 years (or the end of year 6).  There are currently 4 groups of children arranged by age and ability.

Unfortunately Catholic schools for this age group are not easily accessible in this area so the Catechesis Class is offered to help with aspects of the Catholic faith that are unlikely to be addressed in other schools; Mary, the Saints, the Sacraments, Liturgy/Celebrations and traditions of prayer.  We also teach social awareness; during the year we support Naomi House, the Salvation Army and Rowans Hospice.

Adult Catechesis

The Diocesan Spiritual Formation team work to help people develop their personal relationship with God and experience Him in their daily lives.

You might also be interested in Alpha courses running in the local area.  Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

Servers

Every child who has taken their First Communion has the opportunity to join our team of servers. We are also keen to hear from adults who have served and would be able to support and guide our younger servers in this Ministry.

Do you feel you can take part in our Ministries?  Or are you interested in enrolling yourself or your child into our Catechesis programmes?  Contact the Parish Office using the form below and we’ll be in touch.
